Gear To Bring
Packing for this tour will require some planning. Remember the gear you bring will need to be packed daily into kayaks. Selecting good gear will ensure that you are comforatable during this tour. Your personal gear should include:
- Suitable Hat. While a baseball cap is okay better protection from the sun and other elements are best when a wide brimmed hat is used. Some of the best hats can be found in Tackle Stores. Selecting hats that can also repell water will be your best option.
- Quick drying garments such as nylon pants and nylon jackets are your best option. Do not bring jeans or cotton sweat shirts as these items offer little warmth once wet and they can stay wet for days.
- Suitable footwear. As you will be getting your feet wet often good sandals are the best choice for kayaking. While some kayakers like water shoes another option is Rubber Boots. A second set of athletic runners are also advised for hiking.
- Suitable Rain Gear. You are going into a Rainforest so be prepared. Full suits are best for the hikes and quality rain gear is advised. Again we have found that stores that specilize in work items provide the best rain gear without the high price of specialty stores such as Sport Shops and Tackle Stores.
- Fleece jackets, vests, and even pants are excellent for kayaking.
- Insect Repellent. Bring lots as you will need it for the hikes.
- Suitable Sleeping Bag and Therma Rest Pad. Summer temperatures in the Great Bear Rain forest are quite enjoyable during the summer months so extreme sleeping bags are not required.
- Camera Gear and water proof boxes for personal items and other gear. If you cannot find a good water proof box for your camera and other personal items let us know and we will be more then glad to help.
- Dry Bags and Small Backpack Sacks and heavy duty garbage bags are also useful on this tour.
- Water Bottles, Sun Screen, simple first aid kit.
Remember this is a nomadic tour. Showing up with large Pack Sacks and Suit Cases will not work well. If you are not sure about your gear feel free to contact us.
Getting Here...
This tour can include travel from Port Hardy via chartered flight. If you have selected this option Discovery Expeditions will arrange chartered flights from Port Hardy.
Perhaps the most interesting is to take the ferry from Port Hardy. For those that have never seen the West Coast of British Columbia this is a tour in its self.
You may also rent a car and drive to Bella Bella and then take the ferry to Klemtu. Car rentals are best done from Vancouver.
Please feel free to contact us and we will be more than happy to discuss travel.
